The black and white film shows contrast between the white characters and the black characters. Viewers see it from Scout’s point of view. It seems kind of fuzzy, like memories can be. For one thing, the black and white set makes it seem like the story is being told in the past, as though it is all from Scout’s memory. Would the film have had the same impact had it been filmed in color? Probably not. The use of no color intensified the aspect of segregation, which allowed viewers to almost feel what it would have been like to live in the American South during that time.
